The band was formed in 2014 by members of the cover band Moonburn, active on the Aland Islands in Finland since 2008, with the line up unchanged. Moonburn performed locally with a varying set of metal covers from the 70's, 80's and 90's. Before that, the members of Red Room Ensemble have been musically active on a hobby level in different constellations. Söderlund and Stjärnfelt used to play together in a power metal inspired band -Contamination of Expressions- that produced two demo tapes during the 90's and also in a band that covered Deep Purple songs. Moreover, Stjärnfelt featured as a guest singer on Lars-Eric Mattssons "Condition Red (2000)", "Beyond Inspiration (2001)" and "Blackmore's Castle (2003)", and has also figured in the production of ethnic/folk music by Barka Vall. Grönqvist played drums with the Sepultura inspired band Facedrill for many years. Sundström, who stands behind the music on the album Red Room Ensemble, has an education as a music teacher and has worked several years, teaching guitar and musical theory.
Moonburn was the result of the members coming together for what was supposed to be a one time gig, at the wedding of a friend, in 2008. The positive feedback encouraged the members to keep together for several more performances at local venues. After some years of doing this, however, the band decided to initiate a project of their own.
During 2014, the band composed a number of tunes, eight of which were chosen for release. Financed mostly by the members themselves, the debut album/demo Red Room Ensemble was recorded at Audiogrind studios in Stockholm in august-september 2014 by Linus Nirbrant. The release was in February 2015.
The band is independent and currently involved in promoting the release of Red Room Ensemble. A website is being prepared under the domain redroomensemble.ax. The band is booked at two venues for 2015 and has also started writing new material.
